GREGORY MOORE J.D. |
MANAGING PARTNER
BACKGROUND
In January 2009, Greg along with one of his law partners, Russ Kolsrud, created a Behavioral Health Care Law Practice Group in response to the Paul Wellstone & Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 and the resulting expanded services clients in the Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder space would need. It was the first of its kind in a national law firm and leveraged several decades of collective experience representing providers in the mental health, substance use, and ID/DD spaces.
Like clients who secure their futures by diversification of their healthcare services, Greg has diversified his knowledge base across many segments of the healthcare industry in an effort to react to market conditions, regulatory influence and changes in payor policies and focus.

Like clients who secure their futures by diversification of their healthcare services, Greg has diversified his knowledge base across many segments of the healthcare industry in an effort to react to market conditions, regulatory influence and changes in payor policies and focus.
Today, all eyes are on Behavioral Health, one of the most highly regulated segments of the healthcare marketplace such that the transaction volume is off the charts. Yesterday, everyone wanted to buy a hospital. Today, everyone wants to add a Mental Health or SUD Provider to their holdings – particularly Residential Treatment facilities and autism service providers. In order to fully service clients and their growth and diversification objectives, it is critical to maintain regulatory knowledge across multiple segments of the healthcare industry. Greg has done just that.
Greg’s desire in co-founding AVANT is to ensure clients have access to a wide range of quality consulting services through professionals who have the same passion for the industry and have a proven track record serving it.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Greg Moore co-chairs Dickinson Wright's Behavioral Health Care Practice Group along with his partner Russell A. Kolsrud. Greg has been a practicing health care attorney since his graduation from the Indiana University, Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1991. He has advised clients regarding the entire universe of federal and state regulations applicable to the healthcare and behavioral healthcare industries and conducted transactions within multiple market segments including: Physician Practices, Medical Office Building projects, Healthcare Management Companies, Healthcare REITs & RIDEAs, Healthcare Billing Companies, Specialty Care facilities, Behavioral Healthcare Facilities including Psychiatric In-patient Hospitals, Psychiatric Urgent Care Facilities, Residential Treatment Facilities, Crisis Intervention & Stabilization Programs, Mobile Crisis Unit Programs, AFC with BH focus, Autism Service Providers, For-Profit and Not-For Profit Hospitals, Post-Acute Care Programs, and the full spectrum of Senior and Long Term Care Providers including Independent Living, CCRCs, Assisted Living, and Senior Specialty Care facilities.
FAMILY & COMMUNITY SERVICE
Greg is currently serving as the Board Chair for the College for Behavioral Health Leadership, a leading voice in forecasting policy and programmatic changes in the behavioral health field since 1979. Greg also serves as a Board Member at Common Ground, an organization founded in 1971 by a group of students, parents and community leaders who were concerned about an increase in substance abuse and suicide among young people. It is now a 24-hour crisis services agency providing services to more than 80,000 individuals a year and is looked to as a leader in the crisis service industry. Aside from his volunteer board activities, Greg volunteers several hours a week with the national Crisis Text Line as a Crisis Counselor for teens and young adults who may be contemplating (or have attempted) suicide or self-harm. This activity is a demonstration to clients of his commitment to serve on the frontline of the BH industry.
Greg lives in Birmingham with his wife, Tammy and their high energy Aussie, Lola. Tammy is also a trained healthcare attorney turned full time mom extraordinaire, have done a remarkable job molding two brilliant young adults – Mitchell a junior at Northwestern University majoring in Economic and Mathematics with eyes toward the private equity world and Meredith a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis studying in the philosophy, neuroscience and psychology program – an innovative curriculum that fosters engagement between different disciplines addressing the mind-brain continuum. When Greg is not busy buttering up his wife through public pronouncements of her greatness and flexing about his offspring, he can be found racing just about any type of boat which operates on wind power alone.
Honoring the world of disclaimers in which we live, Greg would like for all to know that AVANT does NOT engage in the practice of law and as a licensed attorney Greg does NOT engage in the practice of law at or through AVANT and he does NOT share any revenue generated from his law practice with his partners at AVANT.
